Bengaluru Voter Count Rises by Over 2.08 Lakh After SIR; Special Enrolment Drive Underway
The number of registered voters within the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) limits has increased by over 2.08 lakh following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, GBA Special Commissioner Shilpa Nag C.T. said.
According to the Commissioner, the draft electoral roll dated August 24, 2026, recorded 56,99,660 voters within GBA limits. Following the completion of the SIR process on October 27, the voter count increased to 59,08,151, marking a net rise of 2,08,491 voters, or approximately 3.66%.
Shilpa Nag clarified that the current figures do not represent the final electoral roll, adding that a special enrolment drive is also being conducted to facilitate voter registration.
The revision exercise included the removal of duplicate entries, deceased voters and individuals who had permanently shifted from their registered addresses, as part of efforts to improve the accuracy of electoral records.
The exercise comes amid wider scrutiny of the electoral roll revision process in Karnataka, including concerns over voter deletions, objections and the inclusion of eligible electors. The Election Commission has also emphasised enrolment measures for eligible voters left out during the revision.
The increase in the voter count reflects the net change in enrolment figures, while the detailed breakup of additions, deletions and corrections was not provided in the statement cited.
The special enrolment drive is expected to provide additional opportunities for eligible citizens to register and ensure their participation in the democratic process.
