Yediyurappa Meets Deve Gowda ; Backs Stronger BJP-JD(S) Alliance in Karnataka
Senior BJP leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa met former Prime Minister and JD(S) president H.D. Deve Gowda at his residence in Padmanabhanagar, Bengaluru, on Friday.
Following the meeting, Yediyurappa told reporters that Deve Gowda had suggested that a BJP-JD(S) government alone could bring peace and stability to the people of Karnataka, stressing the need for honest efforts towards that goal.
The leaders discussed the prevailing political situation in the state, the Congress government's administration and strengthening coordination between the BJP and JD(S).
Yediyurappa said Deve Gowda was unhappy with the present government's functioning and favoured united efforts to dislodge the Congress government. He also expressed support for the two parties contesting future elections together.
The meeting assumes political significance following the NDA's victory in all four seats in the recent Karnataka Legislative Council elections, with the BJP retaining three seats and JD(S) winning the Bengaluru Teachers' constituency.
In a post on X, Yediyurappa said he had met the veteran leader to enquire about his well-being, congratulate him on the NDA's electoral success and extend Deepavali greetings.
Yediyurappa added that decisions on continuing and strengthening the alliance would be taken by the senior leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Deve Gowda.
The meeting has renewed attention on the BJP-JD(S) alliance and its potential joint strategy for upcoming local body elections and Karnataka's future political contests.
