Kumaraswamy Questions Police Commissioner's Urgent Briefing on Kannada Rajyotsava Holiday
Union Minister and JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy has questioned the urgency behind Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh's press briefing on the alleged sting operation case, raising questions over a meeting involving Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and senior police officials.
Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru on Monday, Kumaraswamy said he knew why the Police Commissioner had hurried to address the media on a public holiday, Kannada Rajyotsava.
“I know why the Police Commissioner was in a hurry and addressed a press conference on a holiday. What happened at the meeting with the CM after the Kannada Rajyotsava programme, and what directions were given?” he asked.
Kumaraswamy alleged that the Chief Minister, Director General of Police (DGP) and other senior officials had discussed the matter after the Rajyotsava celebrations and questioned whether decisions had been taken before the police statement was made public.
The remarks come amid an escalating political confrontation over the alleged sting operation targeting former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
On Sunday, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said investigators had gathered technical evidence in the case, including alleged links between individuals and the delivery of a mobile phone. Police said the alleged role of those involved was still under verification.
Kumaraswamy also questioned the delay in constituting a Special Investigation Team (SIT), alleging that the investigation should proceed independently and transparently.
The controversy has intensified political exchanges between the Congress and JD(S), with competing allegations over the investigation and the conduct of political leaders.
